Peru's We Are All Micaelas Women's Movement on Sunday rejected the recent suspension of visas for Cuban citizens for various purposes, including Cuban cooperation, especially in the medical field.

A statement from the organization, named after Micaela Bastidas, life and struggle partner of the rebel Túpac Amaru, explains that the measures taken by the US State Department also suspend visas for family reunification, cultural, sports, academic and scientific exchanges.

The organization therefore condemns the measures of economic and political aggression, which undermine the principles of sovereignty and peaceful coexistence of peoples.

The so-called Micaelas pointed out that among the measures taken in one month by the Donald Trump administration are the suspension of licenses for the reception of remittances from Cuban emigrants to their families in Cuba and the re-inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral list of states that allegedly sponsoring terrorism.

It mentions, among others, the activation of the extraterritorial, illegal and infamous Helms-Burton Act, which allows Cubans who were property owners in Cuba before 1959 to make claims against Cuba in the United States.

The measures, noted the We Are All Micaelas Women’s Movement, do not contribute to peace, as they attack the principles of sovereignty and peaceful relations among States and they cast a shadow over relations between the United States, the region and the Latin American peoples.

It calls for the prompt annulment of the aforementioned decisions and the rectification of the US policy on Cuba, and reaffirms its full solidarity with the Cuban people, while invoking the mass and world’s permanent condemnation of the illegal economic, commercial and financial blockade that Washington has imposed on Cuba for more than six decades.
