The Chinese Premier, Li Qiang, spoke by telephone with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, in the midst of the escalation of the US tariff war.
According to the official note, the two discussed China-European Union (EU) relations in the context of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of their diplomatic ties.
Li stressed that bilateral ties show positive and stable momentum, while urging to deepen these ties and advance cooperation.
“China and the EU are essential trading partners, with highly complementary economies,” he said.
The premier expressed Beijing’s readiness to work with Brussels to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen political trust and expand practical cooperation through dialogue to address mutual concerns.
Li also criticized recent tariff measures imposed by the United States against multiple trading partners, including China and the EU, which he described as clear examples of unilateralism, protectionism and coercive economic behavior.
