Bruno Rodriguez, Cuban foreign minister, described as infamous the text that laid the foundations of the US economic blockade on the island, on the occasion of its 65th anniversary.

On X, Cuban diplomat stressed that "After 65 years of the infamous memorandum, the U.S. government maintains the same policy against Cuba".

On April 6, 1960, the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Inter-American Affairs, Lester D. Mallory, in a secret memorandum, defined the philosophy of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed shortly thereafter against the Caribbean nation.

Rodriguez denounced that the US governments "make our people suffer" and attack "their sources of sustenance" with the application of this siege.

He also accused Washington of including Cuba in the List of State Sponsors of Terrorism, which it draws up unilaterally, of maintaining a cognitive and communicational war against the Caribbean country and of conducting a campaign to defame Cuban medical cooperation.

According to the Prensa, Mallory, in the document he sent to Eisenhower, then president of the United States, suggested destroying Cuba's economy as "the only foreseeable way of reducing internal support" for the leader of the Revolution, Fidel Castro.

"All possible means must be quickly applied to weaken Cuba's economic life," he said.

For more than six decades, Cuban authorities have denounced this hostility in national and international forums.

They have also rejected the White House's intention to exculpate this policy and other sanctions for the shortages in this country and, therefore, to hold the Cuban government responsible for them, according to the source.
