Cuban Soap Opera: "Dr. Edgar is a Lot Like Me," Says Actor Jansel Lestegas
especiales

Will Dr. Edgar really become Professor Arturo's rival? Will he and Susana give him a taste of his own medicine, or on that fishing day did we only witness the insecurity and unfounded jealousy of Rita's ex-husband?
I’d have loved to find out from actor Jansel Lestegas, but he'd never give us any spoilers, so when he kindly agreed to answer the interview via WhatsApp, I preferred to send him other questions.
How did you end up on Sábados de Gloria?
“I ended up on Sabados de Gloria when Alfredo Felipe called me for a casting at the production company 51. I auditioned alongside Jorch, the actor who plays Omara's son. That same day, Támara told me the proposal she had for me. I accepted, and we began.”
This is your first time in a soap opera. What challenges did this experience present for you?
“It's my first time in a soap opera, and that meant that, although every job has its beautiful complications, if you add to that the fact that it's my first time in the industry, alongside actors with a wealth of experience and background with whom I had the pleasure of sharing stage, I was very nervous. Thanks to Alfredo, Támara, Roque Moreno, Laura Delgado, Tahimy, Yessi, the makeup artist, the lighting technicians, the cameramen, the sound technicians, and more, who formed a team dedicated to the art of it and welcomed me as family. It was a wonderful experience.”
How are Jansel and Dr. Edgar similar?
“Edgar is a lot like me, because I'm older. He's respectful, loyal to his friends, responsible with his work, trying to improve in his profession every day, timid, noble, and doesn't like injustice.”
You're part of the prestigious Hubert de Blanck company. What does theater mean to you?
“Theater represents to me something like another soulmate. There's a piece of me that stays with Hubert de Blanck every time I go out, which I only have when I'm there and I feel more like myself, more complete in energy, creativity, passion, and life."
What projects are you currently working on?
"I'm currently participating in the rerun of "Romeo and Juliet" at the Hubert de Blanck Theater Company. I'm playing Romeo. It's a beautiful play that I really enjoy. I'm grateful for the opportunity to surpass my own work from 2018 in 2025. The production is dominated by passion in every aspect. These are very passionate characters, who are guided by decisions of the heart, not the mind."
