Cuba’s medical sciences extend international ties

The University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey not only focuses on the training of doctors, but also extends its international collaboration projects in 2023 academic year.
For the institution, which began the current school year on February 4, with an enrollment in its first year of more than 2,000 students in its three specialties, agreements with several countries from different continents are on the agenda, in addition to the training of professionals from African nations such as Congo.
As explained in a press conference by Edwart Fleites, head of the University’s International Relations Department, there are currently six foreign agreements with institutions in Peru, Alicante in Spain, and the Institute of Medicine of Mexico.
Likewise, the collaboration projects are extended with the Institute of Artificial Intelligence of Hebei, in China, with which the Ignacio Agramonte y Loynaz University of Camagüey also maintains close contacts and sponsorships.
The projects with double degree doctorates, in addition to the academic exchange also leads to dividends from the economic order with advanced programs and research that have been published in prestigious international journals.
The University of Medical Sciences of Camagüey, Carlos J. Finlay Order granted by a Presidential Decree, currently has three accredited careers, including Nursing, which have the endorsement of the National Accreditation Board, in addition to its six master’s degree programs, it is projected to achieve the category of Excellence, according to Rector Tamara Chaos.
The institution, founded 43 years ago by the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, in the birthplace of Dr. Carlos J. Finlay, one of the most important scientists in Latin America in the last century, and discoverer of the yellow fever transmitting organism, has more than 1,700 postgraduate residents, in addition to 48 undergraduate programs.
