Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel visited economic centers in western Artemisa province on Friday, as part of the tours he makes of municipalities nationwide to assess their development.
The president’s agenda began in Guanajay municipality, about 30 kilometers from the Cuban capital and characterized by being an agricultural-industrial territory.
The head of State, together with the secretary of Organization of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Roberto Morales, arrived at the Evelio Prieto Guillama Bus Production Company.
Considered essential in the industrial panorama of the country, 100 buses for urban service in Havana are being repaired in that firm, thanks to a donation from China.
According to the Presidency of the Republic on X, the company plans to have the buses ready at the end of the year, while working on other projects such as rail transportation, electrical tricycles and moped assembly.
Díaz-Canel acknowledged that amid adversity, the workers at the center have not stopped and have sought alternatives. He also insisted on the importance of the quality of the productions.
Another stop in the president’s tour was the La Taconera neighborhood, where residents spoke with the president about the 375 years that the city will celebrate and the Cuban heroes who were born there.
Díaz-Canel also visited the José Ramón Martínez primary school, where he met with students and teachers, and visited the Primero de Enero production center.
At this last site, the president learned about the results of the planting of crops such as bananas, onions, fruits, garlic and tomatoes. After speaking with producer Alexander Escalona, from the Eduardo Panizo Cooperative, the president was interested in the payment to producers by the municipal collection company, which is currently in arrears. An issue that must be solved as quick as possible, he insisted.
