Cuba wins bronze at Centrobasket tournament

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 28 (ACN) The Cuban women's basketball team won the bronze medal at the Centrobasket tournament in Chihuahua, Mexico, with a 73-59 victory over the Dominican Republic.

On Sunday, at the Rodrigo M. Quevedo Stadium, Cubans climbed up to the podium despite a bad start in the game in which they lost 14-23 in the first quarter.

In that match, Suanly Tanis led the offense for the Cuban team, scoring 25 points; while captain Yamara Amargo (15) and Isabela Jourdain (12) were also important with their performance.

On the other side, Cheisy Hernandez (14), Genesis Evangelista (12) and Angela Jimenez (10), who also grabbed 12 rebounds, were outstanding.

Mexican hosts and the Puerto Rican team advanced to the title game, and together with the third and fourth place finishers guaranteed their qualification to the 2023 Cup of the Americas.

These four teams, as well as El Salvador, Guatemala and Costa Rica also secured their places in next year's Central Caribbean event in El Salvador.
