President of Argentina Alberto Fernández will travel to Brazil, where he will attend a meeting convened by his counterpart Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to strengthen the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR), the local media reported.
According to Télam news agency and tPágina 12 newspaper, Fernández will leave at night for Brasilia, where a meeting of the region’s heads of state will take place on Tuesday.

In April of this year, Fernández and Lula announced the return of their countries to UNASUR, after former presidents Mauricio Macri (2015-2019) and Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022)withdrew their countries from it in 2019.

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero said that Argentina is returning to that body by sovereign decision, and will promote its institutional revitalization.

He also stressed that the organization will help ensure that Latin America and the Caribbean continue to be a zone of peace.

According to the daily, Página 12, Fernández and Lula will also discuss agreements to establish a financing mechanism for exports and imports without using dollars and a regional strategy to face inflation.
