American film star Kevin Costner visited the Castillo de La Real Fuerza Museum in Havana today for a specialized tour of the building and its collections, particularly those related to underwater archaeology.
According to a post on the museum’s Facebook page, located in Havana’s Historic Center, the renowned director, producer, and actor was welcomed by Perla Rosales, Deputy Director of the Office of the Historian of Havana, along with several other officials.
During the visit, Cuban underwater archaeologist Alejandro Mirabal, who accompanied Costner, shared historical information about the artifacts housed in the museum and their significance, noting that they originate from shipwrecks in Cuban waters dating back to before the late 19th century.
The note did not provide further details about the stay of the American filmmaker, whose face has been a familiar presence on Cuban television these days due to the broadcast of the series Yellowstone.
Costner previously visited Cuba in April 2001, when he met with the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, engaging in a lively dialogue, as reported by the press at the time.
On that occasion, he traveled to Havana to present the film Thirteen Days, about the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962, in which he played the lead role of Kenneth O’Donnell, an aide to John F. Kennedy during that period.
In a 2015 interview with the Spanish Newspaper El País, the artist expressed his joy at the rapprochement between Cuba and the United States.
“I’ve only been to Cuba once, but I see the new situation very positively. In the world we live in, I’m always happy to hear news that brings us closer together,” he stated.
