Russian military chief reviews troops in Kursk

Army General Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian Armed Forces General Staff, on Tuesday assessed compliance of combat missions by the troops fighting in Russia's Kursk region, the Defense Ministry reported.
 
 
Gerasimov, who is also First Deputy Defense Minister, supervised the elimination of the enemy that infiltrated into the province, the military institution noted.

Gerasimov visited the troops’ command post and was briefed by the local commander, Lieutenant General Valery Solodchuk, unit commanders, and other officers about the current situation and the fulfillment of combat tasks.

Summarizing the results, Gerasimov highlighted “the successes” by the group and military units and further instructed them about future endeavors.

The chief of the General Staff also decorated some military personnel who excelled in performing combat actions and acknowledged them for their courage and bravery in the battles to liberate the Russian Kursk Oblast.

On August 6, 2024, Ukrainian troops launched an armed incursion into Kursk Oblast and occupied several areas. The region has been experiencing a federal-level emergency since August 9.
