Lausanne, May 21 (Prensa Latina) The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, will arrive in Japan on July 12.

After the meeting of the Coordination Commission, IOC Vice President John Coates confirmed Bach's arrival in Tokyo 11 days before the opening ceremony of the Games.

According to Coates, Bach's stay and his trip on June 15 will allow him to support the Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee in the final preparations for the multi-sport event, scheduled from July 23 to August 8.

The IOC official noted that as an Olympic movement there is an obligation to do everything possible to ensure that these Games are safe and secure, amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

The publication of the third version of the book on Covid-19 countermeasures in June will offer each group of stakeholders what is expected from them in Tokyo, under the implementation of effective tools to prevent contagion with the new coronavirus.

In that regard, Coates valued as positive the performance on Japanese territory of qualifying events and other international tournaments, as a test on the biosecurity protocols to be implemented during the Olympic competitions.

According to the Coordination Commission meeting, issues such as ceremony operations, sports presentation, pre-Games training camps, planning for the transition to the Paralympic competition and press reservation systems are still to be defined.

The Tokyo Olympic Games were postponed for a year due to the global health crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and in 2021 it is expected to gather around 11,000 athletes from all over the world in Japan.
