Yudi Mercedes Rodriguez, member of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), and the leaders of the Ethiopian House of Peoples' Representatives (HPR-Parliament) discussed strengthening bilateral relations on Friday.
Rodriguez, who is leading the Cuban delegation invited to the 2nd Congress of the ruling Prosperity Party, being held from January 31 to February 2, highlighted the historical ties of friendship between the two countries and Addis Ababa’s support for the struggle against the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba.
Yeshimbet Demissie, Vice President of the Ethiopian Parliament, referred to the international efforts to remove Cuba from Washington’s State Sponsors of Terrorism (SSOT) list, a measure that the Caribbean country considers unjust and groundless.
She pointed out that each member of the Parliamentary Group of Friendship with Cuba signed the international letter requesting that nation’s removal from that false list and reaffirmed to support that cause.
Dima Nogo Serbo, Chairperson of the Foreign Relations and Peace Affairs Committee of the Ethiopian HPR highlighted the close bilateral cooperation and recalled the unconditional support that Cuba provided to Ethiopia at significant moments in history.
Sebo also rejected the US blockade against Havana, its reinstatement in that SSOT list by the administration of US President Donald Trump, and supported the closure of the US naval base in Guantanamo, a portion of the territory illegally occupied by Washington in eastern Cuba.
The meeting reaffirmed both nations’s willingness to continue strengthening their diplomatic and cooperative relations in an international context marked by common challenges and the need to strengthen solidarity among nations, according to information sent to Prensa Latina by the Cuban Embassy in Ethiopia.
