Children's homes for the care of infants of the first ages are of great importance to families, especially working mothers, in this central province of Cuba.

Currently, in Ciego de Avila there are 11 nurseries operating in enterprises, cooperatives, and units of the economy and services, supported by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), to increase educational coverage for early childhood.

The initiative is included in the National Program for the Advancement of Women to enable the incorporation of more females into the workforce, who, until now, had no other possibilities for caring for their young ones.

The last of these facilities, Luces de mi Patria, is located in the community of Patria, in the municipality of Morón. The community had no children’s homes, making it difficult for mothers to join a work center.
