The Havana-based National Museum of Decorative Arts inaugurated the exhibition of Chinese porcelain "Between Myth and Art" on Friday, in the advent of the Lunar New Year.

Nineteen pieces of porcelain, corresponding to different historic periods, between the 18th and 20th centuries, make up the exhibition, which is part of the extensive collection of the museum.

The figures of the dragon, the tiger, the heron, floral motifs such as the cherry or the lotus, stand out as recurring elements in Chinese art, mythology and culture, so extensive, varied and ancient. For some time now, our institution, which holds the most important collection of Chinese art in Cuba, has established important ties with the Chinese Embassy, mainly in order to promote its artistic, cultural and heritage values in a mutual effort, Museum Director and Curator Yosvanis Fornaris said at the inauguration.

This exhibition salutes one of the quintessential Chinese celebrations, the advent of the Lunar New Year; we wish our Chinese brothers a happy new year, he concluded.

The year of the snake (2025) is a symbol of abundance; I wish for China and Cuba greater development, closer bilateral cultural cooperation and a stronger friendship between both peoples. Happy New Year!, said Chinese Ambassador to Cuba Hua Xin.

The exhibition “Between Myth and Art” will be open to the public until April 24.
