This Wednesday, as part of the Cuban Theater Day, actress and professor Miriam Muñoz received the 2025 National Theater Award, in a ceremony that took place at Papalote theater in the city of Matanzas.
The gala was attended by the UNEAC president Marta Bonet, the vice minister of Culture Lillitsy Hernández, the president of the National Council of Performing Arts Rachel García Heredia, and several cultural officials, family, friends and colleagues of this beloved artist.
Miriam Muñoz is an emblematic figure of Cuban theater whose career is distinguished by her dedication and versatility. Born in Matanzas on January 29, 1947, she began her professional career in 1967 with the Puppet Theater of that city. Her self-taught training and participation in workshops with renowned teachers such as Patricia Ariza and Albio Paz have forged an actress of remarkable depth and artistic commitment.
Throughout her career, Muñoz has proven an exceptional skill to interpret a wide range of characters, bringing authenticity and emotion to each one of them. Her participation in more than 100 productions, both in Cuba and in countries like Spain, Mexico, Colombia, Germany, Venezuela, and Argentina, reflects her versatility and dedication to the theatrical art.
In addition to her acting work, Miriam Muñoz has played a fundamental role in the training of new generations of actors. In 2001, she founded the Icarón Teatro project, with the aim of presenting plays and training young actors in the theater itself. Her pedagogical approach is characterized by offering creative freedom to her students, fostering their artistic and personal development.
