Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and other Cuban authorities congratulated Sri Lanka, on Tuesday, on the 77th anniversary of the proclamation of independence, which was celebrated in this capital under the theme "Let Us Unite for National Revival."

In a message to his Sri Lankan counterpart, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, the Cuban head of state sent greetings on the National Day. He reaffirmed the unwavering commitment to strengthening the friendship and cooperation bonds between the two nations.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez also conveyed the same wishes to their counterparts, Harini Amarasuriya and Vijitha Herath.

In a grateful response to Bruno Rodriguez, Herath confirmed his country’s intentions to strengthen bilateral relations between the two States.

In the central activity in Colombo Square, in which the diplomatic corps accredited to Sri Lanka, including Cuba, participated, President Dissanayake urged to celebrate with hope and aspiration for a new kind of freedom.

He pointed out that the country has started a new path with a government built through the collective efforts of the people from the North, East, West, and South, taking up the challenge of making it a prosperous nation.
