2025, a Difficult Year

2025 begins and we try to be optimistic about it because we always believe that with the year new opportunities will come, all good things. However, being objective and serious, it does not seem, actually, that it will be better in general terms as far as global stability is concerned.

Chance could surprise us, but if we analyze the context of the world, with an eye on the economy and politics, we are in a very bad shape. Not to mention everything else, even what does not depend on these two factors shows uncertainty.

For the Western hemisphere (and more) the scenario may be predictable because Donald Trump will soon assume the presidency of the United States, and given what we’ve seen, we can get a notion. Depending on how this country goes, so does the world. Unfortunately, we are talking about the first world power, a label they have felt threatened and don’t want to lose.

It’s not that the United States is the navel of the world, but its influence on every issue is evident, and, indirectly, it always concerns us. There are plenty of examples. There are too many interests scattered throughout the planet.

To begin with, without much effort we guess that beyond the domestic fence, the new government will have consequences for the conflict between Ukraine and Russia, it has anticipated this, also for those that develop in the Middle East, and, of course, they will try with China, again and again.

Furthermore, to say Donald Trump is to talk about deported migrants, crazy adjustments so that “Americans recover their status”, is to be surprised by his wayward ideas, his snubs, his harassment and preferences more than ideological.

The elected-president of the United States knows that this is his last run (until when?). Therefore he will try everything. Returning to the White House was a challenge, an extravagance to show (himself) that he could do it despite so much he has against him.

This shows that his voters are even crazier to entrust a country to a self-centered, erratic, impulsive, despotic, arrogant, petulant, sexist person, and so much more. An improvised politician, on the fly.

The problem is not being ambitious, wanting to grow, trying to make a better country, that’s very good. The issue that worries is not even his projection, although it’s uncomfortable and rude.

What’s worrying is related to his way of achieving his goals, with the way of imposing, with his crazy, narcissistic and superior thinking that we have already seen how in the past it encouraged extremist behavior.

The problem, the same as always, is not leaving the world in peace.

His presidency coincides with the urgency of knowing that it’s the 'last chance to govern a country, also with the development of conflicts everywhere, with unstable economies, as unstable are the governments of the most important nations, with a dispersed region very much in line with any plan of interference.

We must follow his threatening speech; his non-diplomatic behavior, of dividing and establishing scales of difference not only domesticaly.

The first hundred days will be crucial. We guess that there will be decrees, discussions, hurried measures to take advantage of the current fragility and fracture due to geopolitical tensions, alliances will be created with the most radical rulers, and who knows how many more initiatives taking into account his history and promises.

A dangerous year is coming. 2024 ended in embers, with disorder in his backyard, so the future is uncertain because we can already imagine how difficult it’s to straighten out and end disputes. Therefore, there will be no short-term solution. We will continue with wars, with food and fuel shortages, with health crises, people who migrate, and all this without taking into account the climate crisis.

Expectations are high, but there’s no room for naivety, it’s difficult. The idea of solving conflicts in 2025, of achieving a world of peace, is very far away because the northern neighbor is important, the North American hand appears in everything, as if manipulating the strings of a puppet, at will.
