The commitment of Cuba's Telecommunications Company, ETECSA, to continue providing internet access to remote areas of the country was also negatively impacted last year by the low level of executed investments.

The aforementioned was revealed by ETECSA's Executive President, Tania Velázquez, during a recent press conference where she reported on the company's main achievements last year and its prospects for 2025.

"Amid all the difficulties we had to overcome, with the resource shortages and fuel deficits that affected us just like the rest of the country, we managed to bring solutions to 12 People's Councils in 2024.”

The figure is undoubtedly below expectations and plans, but despite this, it is worth noting that many of these cases involve hard-to-reach locations, situated in remote and often mountainous areas.

Such is the case, for example, of La Piñuela People's Council in Buey Arriba, Granma; Cantillo in Maisí, Guantánamo; Las Nuevas in La Sierpe, Sancti Spíritus; and others, completing the dozen.

On this note, Velázquez remarked: "Within this panorama of shortages, we must not lose sight of the need to continue advancing in the areas where we have made the fewest investments and where service coverage is most lacking..."
