The government of Cuba has expressed an interest in Lee Wind Paints and will be partnering with Antigua & Barbuda to explore export opportunities.
This is contained in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between both parties recently.
Trade Minister Paul Chet Greene said the government has signed a joint agreement with Cuba to facilitate the process.
“We have agreed to explore the possibility of a joint project with respect to the Lee Winds Paint brand, as Cuba recognises the need for that particular industry there and the potential for expansion,” Greene said.
In January, the government stepped in to save the homegrown company from collapsing, saying it was too important to the economy to fail.
Company sources told OBSERVER media that the government had written off $2 million owed in corporate and sales taxes to acquire more shares in the paint manufacturer and was now the majority shareholder.
Both countries will also be collaborating in the area of sports, culture and the arts.
