Cuba and Serbia underline permanence of close relations

The Secretary General of the Foreign Ministry of the Republic of Serbia, Dušan Kozarev, received the Cuban ambassador, Leyde Ernesto Rodriguez, published today the diplomatic headquarters of Havana in that capital.
 
During the meeting, Kozarev stressed that both countries maintain close relations based on mutual understanding between peoples.

He also indicated that the visits of President Aleksandar Vučić to Cuba, in 2017, and of the island’s President Miguel Diaz-Canel to Serbia, in 2023, gave a special boost to bilateral ties.

In addition to this, he noted that Belgrade highly appreciates Havana’s firm support for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of that European nation and valued the cooperation developed in the sphere of the United Nations General Assembly.

For his part, the diplomat of the Caribbean country thanked Serbia for its permanent support to the Cuban resolution at the UN on the need to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States.

He also referred to the support for the removal of Cuba from the arbitrary list of alleged state sponsors of terrorism.

Likewise, he recalled the text of the statement of Serbia’s Foreign Ministry which, in June 2024, called for new measures to be taken in this field for a better understanding in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions, and based on the statement of the Joint Coordinating Committee of the Non-Aligned Movement,-Group of 77 and China of June 14, 2024.

The parties also discussed cooperation between the two states in the fields of culture, science, tourism, agriculture, biopharmaceuticals, as well as the possibility of strengthening ties in other areas of mutual interest.

After thanking Cuba for confirming its participation in the specialized exhibition Expo 2027, Kozarev assured that this international event is an opportunity to present the island to visitors.

At the meeting, the Cuban ambassador also sent a congratulatory message on the upcoming Day of Serbia’s State-Sretenje.
