London, Mar 23 (Prensa Latina) Guitarist Keith Richards on Thursday recalled the historic concert given by the British band The Rolling Stones in Cuba seven years ago, when people of various generations enjoyed the electrifying music of "Their Satanic Majesties."

“March 25, 2016, we went to Havana, Cuba. What a night it was!!”, the iconic artist wrote on his Twitter account, where he also shared a short video of the free show which was part of the group’s Olé tour of Latin America.

The first part of the video shows Richards when he addressed the hundreds of thousands of people who gathered that day in the fields of Havana’s Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City). “Havana, Cuba and The Rolling Stones. This is amazing,” he said at the time.

Other parts of the video allow you to take a quick look at the performances of the guitarist and other legendary members of the group, including their leader, Mick Jagger, who during that unprecedented presentation surrounded his body with a Cuban flag while he performed the song Brown Sugar.

The tweet also shows the euphoria of the audience, which was made up of long-standing fans deeply familiar with the group’s work and many other people less familiar with their songs, but equally eager to live the unique experience.

During that first open-air concert of a British rock band in Cuba, the audience was seduced by the influence and energy of its members, who gave away emblematic pieces such as Angie, Sympathy for the Devil, You can’t Always Get What You Want, and Satisfaction, a luxurious closing for more than two hours of music.

The show in Havana, a cultural event that made international headlines, was also the focus of a documentary entitled The Rolling Stones: Havana Moon, and left its mark on music lovers in Cuba on the artists themselves.

This is proved not only by Richards’ tweet, but also by the fact that a few days ago guitarist Ronnie Wood, who is also a painter, showed his most recent creation on Instagram, a colorful representation of The Rolling Stones on a street in Havana.

Ronnie’s latest portrait “illustrates how the band was inspired and strengthened by the Havana music scene and the Cuban people, at the time of their spectacular free concert for more than 500,000 persons,” according to his Twitter account.
