Violent Incident Involving A Firearm In A Library Involves A Police Officer

At approximately 12:32 p.m., officers responded to a call at the Poplar-White Station Library at 5094 Poplar Avenue. At this point, it is unclear what exactly occurred. However, preliminary information confirms that an officer and another individual were shot. The officer was transported to Regional One Hospital in extremely critical condition. The individual was pronounced deceased at the scene. The scene is secure.

This investigation is active and ongoing.

Due to this shooting involving an officer, at the request of Shelby County District Attorney Steve Mulroy, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) has been notified of the incident and is enroute to the scene.
