Ethiopia's State Minister of Finance, Semereta Sewasew, and UN Women Deputy Executive Director, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, from Zimbabwe, on Wednesday assessed the African country's ongoing efforts to achieve gender equality.

Gender financing and women’s empowerment were other issues addressed at the meeting, the local Finance Ministry reported on her Facebook profile.

Sewasew reaffirmed Addis Ababa’s commitment to promote women’s leadership in all sectors, foster inclusive growth, and ensure diverse perspectives in decision-making at all levels.

She thanked UN Women for its significant role in advancing gender monitoring, promoting financial empowerment, and increasing access to finance for that population segment.

Gumbonzvanda, in turn, highlighted Ethiopia’s progress in gender budgeting, particularly by adopting the Gender Budgeting Statement (GBS) and developing a toolkit.

She commended these measures and acknowledged their importance in promoting gender-responsive policies.

UN Women’s Country Representative to Ethiopia, Cecile Mukarubuga, also reaffirmed the commitment to implement the GBS at national and sub-national levels, stressing the importance of personal support to maximize impact in the sector, and paving the way for a more participatory economy.
