Quito, Feb 23 (Prensa Latina) After 48 hours that the electoral results for the presidential pair of Ecuador were announced, the deadline granted to political organizations to lodge appeals and challenges to the vote counting expired on Tuesday.

Since February 21, when the National Electoral Council (CNE) announced the elections results and notified the contending forces, the time for pertinent complaints, which closed at midnight today, began to run.

It is not necessary that the previous institutions have been exhausted; that is, a party or movement can appeal directly to the election judges, without challenging the CNE results, the Council stated in a press release.

For its part, in the Code of Democracy or Ecuador's electoral law, the demands must be resolved in the following three days.

Once that stage is over, the presidential candidates who will compete in the April 11 runoff will be officially appointed.

For the moment, with the preliminary figures, Andres Arauz, from the left-wing 'Union por la Esperanza' (Unity of Hope) coalition, and Guillermo Lasso, from the center-right 'CREO' (Believe) alliance, will be the rivals in the elections.
