Cuba applies magnetic stimulator to relieve pain through electrical impulses

The National Center of Applied Electromagnetism of the University of Oriente, in this eastern city, favors the operation of rehabilitation therapies with the local magnetic stimulator Nak, created to reduce pain and inflammations.

Antonio Garcia Leyva, director of technological development of the institution, informed the Cuban News Agency that by means of electric energy, the equipment creates a magnetic field and reaches the tissues of the affected area, where it reduces edemas and consolidates fractures.

He mentioned that the device has been tested at the Tamara Bunke maternity hospital in this city and the Provincial Center of Sports Medicine, with satisfactory results in the care of players of the baseball team of the territory.

The use of Nak does not require previous training, since it has programmed therapies in its configuration, with the purpose of facilitating the manipulation to the specialists in Rehabilitation and providing the possibility of carrying out sessions at home, he explained.

According to Garcia Leyva, the complexities faced in importing some components, due to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government on Cuba, hinder the large-scale production and commercialization of the equipment, despite its proven acceptance.

Jose Castillo Bonne, design specialist, assured the efficiency shown in treatments for patients with osteomyoarticular system affections, psoriasis, pelvic inflammation and some types of lupus, and emphasized the reduction of conventional therapy periods.

Created in 1998, the local magnetic stimulator has been updated to modernize physiotherapy services in the eastern region and the rest of the country and improve the quality of life of athletes.
