From chapter 1, the stunning blonde played by Laura Delgado began to stir things up in the plot of the recently released soap opera Sábados de Gloria, but also to show us a talented actress, capable of showing off in a very different characterization from the young officer in the Sunday police show Tras la Huella that made her popular.

But since we are not prejudiced and nobody knows her better than her, we asked Laura to introduce us to Susana: “My character in Sábados de Gloria is called Barbie, she is an endocrinologist and, well, she is going to give us a little bit to talk about.”

What challenges did she pose for you and what did you enjoy most when playing this character?

“Susana is a character that could have inclined to be stereotyped, however, since we studied her, we analyzed her, we tried to defend her, and hopefully we did it, a character, a woman with values that we will know, even if for the moment it seems a little different. Everything is a process and I liked, let's say, dressing Susana like the dolls. It seems like a joke, but it's not. Finding her way of projecting herself, her way of walking, her way of dressing, of looking, well, the truth is, I wasn’t expecting so, but it was one of the things I enjoyed the most.

“When they gave us the scripts, the novel had 40 chapters written. The last 20 chapters were missing and they gave us actors the chance to contribute ideas for the ending of each of the characters. So I can say that in the end of the story we have a little to do. That was another turning point in the creation of Susana, because it seemed or could seem that it was going to be one way and, nevertheless, we made a construction so that there will be a surprise for the spectator regarding her.”

All of Cuba knows you for your participation in Tras la Huella. What challenges and what satisfactions has that work left you? Any anecdotes with the public?

Tras la huella is a series that I adore. I joined the team during the pandemic and they welcomed me with a lot of respect. It’s a series that I appreciate from the wonderful team in it, to the love of the Cuban public.

Of course the response of spectators is very important, because that’s what we actors work for, for the public that receives us. So professionally I owe it to them, because having the specialty of my character, which is criminal intelligence, and saying so much information, giving so much data, doing a job, let's say, more intellectual in terms of solving the cases and expressing it in an organic way, is quite a challenge and a whole career. So I only have words of gratitude for Tras la huella.

Sometimes people can’t tell apart the actress from the character and then they think that we assume the same role in life and it’s not like that. That has generated some confrontations with the public, but in the end they understand, because Cubans are like that, the Cuban is passionate, but very intelligent.

I have seen on your social networks samples of a great love for theatre. Where are you happiest, there or in front of TV cameras?

"My absolute training is in theatre. I studied at the National School of Art, but I say that I became an actress and I’m truly convinced of that, here at Hubert de Black through the stage, through learning, through the dedication of my directors, Orieta Medina, Fabrizio Hernández, Marilena Sotera, Luis Brunet. I wouldn’t like to miss anyone because, in essence, they are the reason why,  I’m the actress I am today and I’ll be grateful for that now and forever.

"They are different media, they express themselves differently. Theatre is like my domain, and television is a medium that’s no longer so new to me, but it has other codes and that I am also grateful for because I have been lucky enough to meet great human beings, so I wouldn’t know how to choose. They are different sensations, different processes, it’s a different way of expressing, so both are welcome."

What projects are you currently working on?

"Right now, we are still recording episodes of Tras la Huella and on March 15 we are going to re-premiere Romeo y Julieta, which is one of the essential works in our company and, I have to say, also in my history as an actress. So now you know, I leave you the invitation: starting March 15, at Hubert de Black theater company. Romeo and Juliet, you are super invited to a show that I consider valuable and beautiful."
