The Ignacio Cervantes Concert Hall, located at a majestic building in Havana, on Friday hosts the performance by South Korean musician Yeontaek Oh, as part of the program of the 6th International Meeting of Young Pianists in Cuba.

The concert hall, established 10 years ago, occupies one of the floors of the former Spanish Casino of Havana, built on the emblematic Paseo del Prado in 1914, and famous at the time for its festivities, dances and banquets.

Since its reopening, after a significant restoration process undertaken by the Office of the Historian of the City, it has hosted musicians such as singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez, pianist Maria Victoria del Collado, violinist Alfredo Muñoz and clarinetist Aristides Porto.

The event, devised a decade ago by professor Salomon Mikowsky and historian Eusebio Leal, features seven students from the Manhattan School of Music in the United States in this edition at the best halls dedicated to classical music in Havana.

According to the organizing committee, the 19 concerts with an orchestra, recitals and master classes will be performed by 14 pianists from nine nations, among them Russian-US Kirill Gerstein and Greek Katia Skanavi.

Organized by the Esteban Salas Musical Heritage Cabinet and the Deputy Directorate for Cultural Management at the Office of the Historian of the City of Havana, the agenda also includes the colloquium on the art of playing the piano with Professor Mikowsky.
