Argentina to Coordinate MERCOSUR Social Summit

Argentina will coordinate the next Social Summit of the Southern Common Market (MERCOSUR), scheduled for June 1, local media reported.

The event will take place as part of the country’s exercise of the pro tempore presidency of this mechanism and will be held on digital platforms.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero will inaugurate the meeting, which aims to enrich the political and community agenda and recognize the importance of participation in social organizations and movements. The latest meeting was held in 2016.

This time, Argentina would focus on a broad, plural, and inclusive talk about leading issues on the regional agenda.

The event will also advocate strengthening political, social, economic, and commercial integration in the context of new global challenges, the Foreign Ministry stated.
