Caracas, Oct 11 (Prensa Latina) The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) has today two pending cases on fraud and other violations in the first stage of the recall referendum promoted by the right against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

According to the newspaper Ultimas Noticias, the body is processing two charges against the so-called Democratic Unity Table (MUD) during the events from April 27th to 29th, when the collection of one percent of signatures was needed to request this electoral process.

The first accusation is about irregularities in the documents filed to the Constitutional Court on June 13th by the representative of the Presidential Commission for Verification of signatures, Jorge Rodriguez.

On June 16th, attorney Luis Alberto Rodriguez brought a joint action of protection to the same institution to ask magistrates annul the call for referendum against Maduro.

In its brief, the attorney pointed out that the recall referendum should be used under the premise of political responsibility 'and not as a tool to gain power and disturbing the peace of the nation'.

The executive has also formally asked the Supreme Court to end parliamentary immunity on the grounds that this benefit is being used by the leadership of the opposition to successfully avoid punishment for crimes against the people and their illegal and unconstitutional acts.

With these pending proceedings, the Constitutional Court will meet today, although this issue is not expected to be discussed.
