Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, sent floral offerings today to the Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque, on the 16th anniversary of his passing.

The wreaths were placed before the mausoleum that perpetuates the memory of the martyrs of the Mario Muñoz Monroy Third Front, on La Esperanza hill. Additional floral arrangements were placed on behalf of Esteban Lazo, President of the National Assembly of People's Power, and of the Cuban people, in homage to the founder of the guerrilla enclave.

A Pilgrimage to a Sacred Site

The people of Cruce de los Baños, the main town of this mountainous municipality, also made a pilgrimage to this sacred site of the nation to pay tribute to the man who wrote pages of heroism and fidelity to the Cuban Revolution and was a fervent defender of culture.

Gladisleidis Mendoza Rodríguez, first secretary of the Union of Young Communists in that region, stated that "his legacy is not limited to victories on the battlefield, as it was much more comprehensive in teachings that the struggle for justice is a difficult path."

She affirmed the commitment to continue the legacy of Almeida Bosque, who "constitutes an example for all generations of Cubans."

During the emotional gathering, songs and poems evoked the imprint of the assailant of the Moncada Barracks, the expeditionary of the yacht Granma, the guerrilla leader, and the committed director.

Military Ceremony Honors a Commander's Legacy

The event and military ceremony were led by member of the Central Committee of the PCC and head of the Eastern Army, Division General Eugenio Rabilero Aguilera, as well as by political and governmental authorities of the southeastern province and the municipality of Tercer Frente.

Born on February 17, 1927, in Havana, Juan Almeida Bosque held the rank of Commander for his participation in decisive actions for the revolutionary triumph of January 1959.

Furthermore, he held numerous responsibilities as a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the PCC since its foundation in 1965, was Vice President of the Council of State, and President of the Association of Combatants.
