Cuba-born baseball player Orestes Miñoso, the first black Cuban to join the US Major Leagues, died in Cook county, Illinois on March 1.

Minnie Miñoso, as he was known, made his debut in 1949 with the Indians of Cleveland, two years after Jackie Robinson broke the racial barrier with the Dodgers of Brooklyn.

In Cuba, the baseball player gained several titles in batting, as best player among others from 1945 to 1957.

Miñoso, who won three Golden Gloves with the Major Leagues, could not make it to Cooperstown, the baseball fame hall, but his career showed he was one of the greatest.
