Contemporary Dance of Cuba Returns to the National Theater
especiales

Contemporary Dance of Cuba, directed by maestro Miguel Iglesias, returns to the stage of the Avellaneda ward of the National Theater from Friday, February 21 with a program that combines tradition and modernity.
The company's first season of the year stands out for the premiere in the country of Purple Fools, a choreography by Italian Mauro de Candia, and the revival of Súlkary, an emblematic work by maestro Eduardo Rivero.
Purple Fools, which premiered worldwide on February 12, 2012 at the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee by the Milwaukee Ballet, comes to the Cuban stage for the first time with music by composers such as Offenbach, Ros, Vivaldi, Mozart, Shostakovich, Bach and Ponchielli.
The piece envelops dancers and audience in a true whirlwind. Through intricate combinations of rapid and partnered movements, the work parodies theater, opera, the bourgeoisie and dance, questioning a perception of appearance and moods, expressed outside their usual context.
The season also celebrates the return of Súlkary, one of the jewels of Cuban modern dance. Premiered in May 1971 at the García Lorca Ward, this choreography has been acclaimed by generations of spectators.
The revival of this masterpiece guarantees fidelity to the original spirit of the piece, while providing a renewed vision for new generations of dancers and spectators.
Contemporary Dance of Cuba, founded 65 years ago by maestro Ramiro Guerra, has established itself as the main reference for modern dance on the island. Throughout its history, the company has shown an integrative capacity that has opened doors to the confluence of all arts, being a space for stage experimentation and training of high-level dancers.
The performances of this season will be held on Friday 21 and Saturday 22 at 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday 23 at 5:00 p.m., at Avellaneda Ward of the National Theater of Cuba. The followers of the group will have the opportunity to enjoy a program that combines contemporary innovation with the richness of the Cuban dance tradition.
