Zurich, Switzerland, Apr 4 (Prensa Latina) The International Football Federation (FIFA) today expressed its confidence in the safety of Russia for the holding of the Confederations Cup next June and the 2018 FIFA World Cup following the tragic event in St. Petersburg.

'FIFA and the local organizing committee have full confidence in the preparations and in the comprehensive security concept planned for the upcoming events,' said a spokesman for the governing body of the discipline.

FIFA also said it did not see the need to use additional security measures in Russia for such events.

The message comes after 14 people died and other 50 injured on Monday due to an explosion in the subway of St. Petersburg, one of the main venues of the Confederations event.

St. Petersburg will be the venue for the inaugural match and the Confederations Cup final, from June 17 to July 2, while hosting seven matches at the World Cup next year.
