Caracas, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza sent a message of solidarity on Thursday to former Colombian senator and human rights defender Piedad Cordoba, after the attempt on her life perpetrated yesterday.

On Twitter, the head of Venezuelan diplomacy questioned the position of the Colombian authorities to rule out the assassination attempt for political reasons, and describe the incident as a robbery.

'Once again, everything points to an attempt on her life. Once again, the Colombian State investigates in record time (in hours) and denies the political motivations. Colombia does not deserve more violence, nor more impunity,' Arreaza tweeted.

Heavily armed men fired on the armored vehicle assigned to the security scheme of the former presidential candidate on Wednesday evening in the Kennedy neighborhood, south of Bogota.

When denouncing the attack, the activist and human rights defender recalled other similar incidents suffered in recent months, and also addressed by the police authorities as alleged robberies.

Piedad Cordoba advocated implementing urgent measures to build a Colombia free of violence.

'Think of a country where one can be the most critical voice and be able to go through the streets without the need for escorts, use mobiles without the fear of being watched, look at your children without being terrified of just thinking something bad could happen to them... that is the country that has to be built,' she assured.
