According to statistics, female journalists constitute 51 percent of the print media staff and 54 percent of the radio personnel.
They also serve as presidents of the institution in seven provinces and have a high percentage of members in 11 administrative territorial demarcations.
The Cuban Press Day celebration is taking place from March 5 to 20, with sports and cultural activities, theoretical meetings, and acts of recognition to prominent figures of the sector and institutions.
The Cuban Press Day is celebrated every year on March 14 to honor the founding of Patria (Homeland) newspaper by National Hero José Martí, in 1892, to disseminate patriotic and revolutionary ideas in preparation for the final liberation war against Spanish colonialism.
