The summer program "Pa' Cuba," which concludes this Sunday at the Pabexpo fairgrounds in Havana, has been deemed a success by its organizers, with approximately 10,000 visitors on weekends and up to 6,000 on weekdays.
Rafael Alejandro Rodríguez, director of Pabexpo, briefly told the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that public attendance has been consistently high, with families coming to enjoy the diverse offerings. These include educational games, children's and adult shows, sales exhibitions, and gastronomy, among others.
Silvia, who arrived at Pabexpo from the so-called paradero de Playa on an electric tricycle, spent several hours exploring the venue with a friend. She mentioned she would return before Sunday to purchase some needed products she identified as more affordable.
Several members of the workgroup selling "all novu" brand household appliances noted the high demand for gas stoves, induction cookers, rice cookers, and multi-purpose pots, which were offered at innovative prices. "We always have a line of people buying the products, and they leave satisfied," stated one of the young saleswomen.
Children, teenagers, youth, and adults flock to Pabexpo to find unique recreation in spacious areas transformed into game rooms, points of sale for handicrafts, confectionery, household items, furniture, and footwear.
On August 15, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, visited Pabexpo. He learned that across all halls, more than 160 economic actors are distributed in nearly 200 stalls. This initiative was launched by Palco Business Group's event company to utilize the fairgrounds during the summer months when the venue was otherwise unoccupied.
For the near future, participation could potentially be enhanced by including more state entities to accompany non-state economic actors with price differentiation.
It appears that "Pa' Cuba" has arrived this summer to stay, making good use of Pabexpo's expansive halls. This recreational option is appreciated by the hundreds of thousands of Cubans who have already passed through, like Jorgito, who ran off to play with balloons and balls after having little luck with his virtual adventures.
