More than 1.5 million Cuban students, from preschool through pre-university, including special education schools and vocational training centers, will begin the academic year on September 1, announced Naima Ariatne Trujillo, Minister of Education, during a press conference today.

The minister explained that this school year begins as the sector continues a process of improvement that includes updating study materials. In this regard, she specified that new textbooks will gradually be distributed throughout the country.

She also stated that while textbooks are important for learning, methodological tools and guidelines must also contribute to a better development of the 2025-2026 school year.

Trujillo added that notebooks and pencils are guaranteed for students, while teachers will be provided with the resources needed for their instructional work.

Regarding uniforms, she pointed out that due to difficulties in production, distribution has been prioritized for students entering preschool, fifth grade, and seventh grade, while other educational levels will receive them at a later time.

Officials from the Ministry of Education emphasized that although the maintenance and repair plan for schools has not yet been fully completed, significant progress has been achieved in several territories.

The press conference also addressed the need to effectively address the shortage of teachers, with western Cuba being the most affected region in this regard.

It was stressed that the role of the family is essential for the success of the new school year.

The meeting was also attended by other representatives from different structures of the Ministry of Education.
