The Green Economy Institute and the Vietnam-Cuba Intergovernmental Committee held a working session on August 28 in Hanoi, during which they launched the Vietnam-Cuba Biotechnology Network.
Duong Thi Bich Diep, director of the Institute, explained that the network was created to connect research centers, universities, hospitals and enterprises from both countries, with a focus on research, training, technology transfer, production and commercialization of biological products.
She noted that this represents an important step in bringing scientific and technological achievements to serve sustainable agriculture, health care and public well-being.
The director emphasized that the Institute expects the network to become a key linkage mechanism that will drive long-term strategic cooperation projects in biotechnology, thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of both nations.
Cuban Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Déborah Rivas Saavedra, stressed that bilateral relations have been continuously strengthened and developed, providing a solid foundation for expanding collaboration in various areas, particularly in economy, trade, investment, science and technology.
The head of the Cuban delegation to the Intergovernmental Committee stated that the network initiative aligns with the strategic orientations of cooperation, helping to effectively harness the potential of biotechnology for agriculture, medicine and public health, while reaffirming the shared determination to promote cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in the near future.
Previously, during the Vietnam-Cuba Biomedical Cooperation Conference held in Vietnam on June 28, the Green Economy Institute signed a framework cooperation agreement with Cuba’s Labiofam Group and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB).
The agreement promotes joint research, development and production of biological products in agriculture and natural medicine, laying the groundwork for the implementation of long-term strategic cooperation projects in biotechnology between the two countries.
