The residents of the municipality of Santa Isabel de las Lajas, in the province of Cienfuegos, will pay a heartfelt tribute to Benny Moré during the day of culture that begins today, in the native land of the famous Cuban musician.
The remembrance of someone who made great contributions to Cuban culture will take place on February 19, for the 62nd anniversary of the physical disappearance of the Bárbaro del Ritmo.
As is tradition in that town, the population, friends and family will make a pilgrimage to the bard's tomb, where they sing his songs, and then in the Cabildo de los Congos they perform the Makuta touches and dance, originating from Benny's ancestors.
In its 46th edition, the event that ends on the 19th will pay tribute to the repentista poet Benedicto Ortíz, and to Elaine Hernández Sosa, prominent cultural promoter and director of the Makuta project.
Bartolomé Maximiliano Moré, better known as Benny Moré, died on February 19, 1963, when he was only 44 years old, although he had forged a great musical history for his unique voice and the quality of his performances.
