Syrian Foreign Minister thanks Cuba for its support and solidarity (+Photos)

Damascus, Feb 22 (Prensa Latina) The Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Mekdad, expressed his country's gratitude to the people and government of Cuba for their position in support and solidarity after the devastating earthquakes.

The position of the head of the Syrian diplomacy was expressed today in a bilateral meeting held after receiving a copy of the credentials of Luis Mariano Fernandez, the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Cuba to the government of this nation.

The impact of the unilateral sanctions imposed by the United States and the West on Syria doubled the sufferings of Syrians as a result of 12 years of war and the recent natural disaster that shook the country, the Foreign Minister said.

He also reassured Syria´s strong condemnation against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba and described it as inhumane, immoral and violator of all humanitarian principles and also violating the Charter of the United Nations.

In turn, the Cuban ambassador expressed the condolences of his country’s government for the victims of the earthquakes, and condemned the recent Israeli aggression against Damascus, which he described as a cowardly one.

He reiterated Havana’s willingness to send medicines to Syria to address the consequences of the earthquake.
