Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump are scheduled to hold a joint press conference following their negotiations in Anchorage, Alaska, presidential aide Yuri Ushakov, a member of the Russian delegation, announced Thursday.
Preparations for the meeting have entered their final stage, all issues are being resolved in an intensive manner, the official said. The talks will have a businesslike character and the Russian delegation is ready to negotiate, he added.
Ushakov noted that cooperation between the United States and Russia has enormous untapped potential, although he acknowledged that the summit agenda will focus on Ukraine.
Near the military base that will host the summit is a memorial cemetery where nine Soviet aviators are buried, along with two U.S. Army soldiers and two civilians who died while transferring combat aircraft from the United States to the Soviet Union during World War II, the aide said.
Thus, the meeting will take place next to an important historic site that evokes the combat brotherhood of the peoples of both countries, something especially symbolic in the year marking the 80th anniversary of victory in the fight against Nazi Germany and militarist Japan, he emphasized.
