The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel, received this Friday the ambassador of Namibia, Samuel Hendrik Goagoseb, who concludes his mission at the diplomatic headquarters of the sister country here.
The president expressed his gratitude for his contribution to the development of the historic relations between both peoples, according to a message from the Cuban Presidency on its social media account X.
The ties between Cuba and Namibia have been forged in the context of internationalist solidarity and the common struggle against colonialism and apartheid.
From the 1970s and 1980s, Namibian SWAPO (Southwest Africa People's Organization) fighters participated alongside Cuban troops in Angola, confronting the South African occupation.
Also noteworthy is the Battle of Cuito Cuanavale (1987-1988), considered decisive for Namibia's independence, a battle in which Cuban forces participated decisively.
These relations were formalized diplomatically on March 21, 1990, coinciding with Namibia's Independence Day, and since then, a continuous pattern of official visits and bilateral agreements has been established.
