In an international context where wars and crises are proliferating, the United Nations is holding the High-Level Meeting on Monday, marking its eight decades of existence.
During the meeting, UN officials and Heads of State and Government who traveled to New York will reflect on achievements and the path forward to achieve a more inclusive and responsive multilateral system.
The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) is taking place under the theme “Better Together: 80 Years and More for Peace, Development and Human Rights,” at a crucial moment to renew the global commitment to multilateralism, solidarity, and shared action for people and the planet.
The organization stated that this year’s high-level week highlights the urgency of fulfilling the promise of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and revitalizing global cooperation.
The program noted that discussions will take place from September 23 to September 29.
The UN website noted that Gaza and the Palestinian State, Ukraine, Sudan, other wars, climate change, women equality, and artificial intelligence (AI) are among the issues of great interest for the General Assembly’s keynote week, where at least 193 speakers will speak.
Other meetings include the Summit for a Sustainable, Inclusive, and Resilient Global Economy on September 24. The Summit on the Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases and the Promotion of Mental Health, and the Commemoration of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons will be held on September 25.
