President of Cuba highlighted the legal value of the Family Code

Havana, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel stressed today that the new Family Code encourages affection as a legal value, a novel aspect of this law that will go to a popular referendum on September 25.

The #FamilyCode implies something very novel: affection as a legal value. That is why it has been called the Code of Affection. It has an undisputed ethical value, it teaches us to think and gives us the reins to educate future generations. #CódigoSi (#CodeYes),” the Cuban president wrote on Twitter.

Likewise, in the same social network, the Cuban Ministry of Justice said that this norm reinforces the urgent protection against discrimination and violence, and expands the possibility of denunciation to any person who knows about these facts, beyond the protection in the judicial sphere.

The new Family Code embraces contemporary Cuban families from respect, love and inclusion.

“It is portraying Cuban society: diverse and heterogeneous, where we cannot all think alike and everyone has their own way of being, their worldview of the world,” Leonardo Perez, a member of the Drafting Commission of the text, recently remarked.

“The Code does not build anything new, nothing that is here does not exist, the Law always arrives late, and what we are doing is settling a debt with all that vulnerable sector with respect to which the protective mantle of the Law was not extended,” the president of the Cuban Society of Civil and Family Law of the National Union of Jurists of Cuba said.
