The Peru-Cuba Parliamentary League of Friendship expressed its condemnation of the new attack of the United States against the island, by re-including it in the list of countries supposedly sponsors of terrorism.

The league’s president, Silvana Robles, expressed her deep indignation at the US president’s decision. She called Trump’s inclusion of Cuba in that list, from which it was excluded by his predecessor in “an act of recognition of truth and principles of international justice.”

The US leader’s move “is not only baseless, but is an alarming setback that demonstrates a policy of deliberate hostility toward a sovereign nation,” she said.

She added that Trump, far from promoting dialogue and bilateral cooperation, has decided to tighten the economic, commercial and financial blockade through a groundless designation and for the purposes of political pressure.

“It is a show of contempt for the values of respect and peaceful coexistence between nations and an attempt to justify coercive actions that directly affect the Cuban people, causing them deficiencies” and attacking their well-being, the Peruvian lawmaker argued.

She called on the international community to condemn the aggression against Cuba’s sovereignty and the basic principles of relations between states and to stand in solidarity with the Cuban people, who “have shown admirable resilience in the face of decades of injustice.”
