Brasilia, Dec 20 (Prensa Latina) The number of deaths from Covid-19 in Brazil rose to 186,356 after 706 deaths in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health reported.

The update also pointed out that 50,177 new infections from the disease were recorded, raising the total number of cases to 7,021,115 since the first was reported in February.

The epidemiological report also indicated that 6,222,764 patients recovered and another 804,035 remain under medical observation.

The numbers reveal that the country has a mortality rate of 88.7 deaths per 100,000 people and a lethality of 2.6 percent among the infected.

The state of Sao Paulo continues to be the epicenter of the pandemic in the country, with 44,878 human losses and 1,371,653 positive cases.

The Health Ministry warned that statistics for the weekends are almost always below average due to the less participation of officials in data processing and incomplete reports from some states.

Despite this, secretaries of the health sector and experts assure that Brazil is facing a second wave of the pandemic without having overcome the first.
