Mexico, December 23 (RHC)-- Mexico and Cuba signed a Letter of Intent on cooperation to implement a rural development program and strengthen local economic, social, and environmental capacities.
The letter was signed Wednesday by the Executive Director of the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), Laura Elena Carrillo, and the Cuban Ambassador to Mexico, Marcos Rodríguez.
In a press release, the Mexican Foreign Ministry points out that the program aims to contribute to social welfare, promote environmental care, and the economic development of Cuban farmers.
The note refers to the direct granting of incentives, such as economic support, delivery of inputs in kind for agricultural production, and technical support for the development of agroforestry and pastoral systems to encourage self-consumption of food, marketing of surpluses, and job creation.
Today, said the official, we are culminating part of a process that began more than two years ago on the instructions of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
She assured that this initiative would contribute to encouraging the improvement of the countryside, promoting development, and at the same time the food sufficiency of the Cuban population.
For his part, Ambassador Rodriguez emphasized that this signing is the first step towards continuing the cooperation that has always existed between the two countries.
"I am convinced that our people will highly appreciate Mexico's invaluable assistance, which is invaluable to us," said the Cuban Ambassador.
