The presidents of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, and Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, met in Paris on Thursday, when they underscored the ties of friendship between the two countries.

The meeting of Latin American leaders took place as part of the collateral events of the Summit for a New Global Financial Pact, which opened this morning to seek consensus on a fairer financial architecture focused on addressing the challenges of climate change and poverty.

On social networks, the Presidency of Cuba described the meeting as very cordial, and recalled that it was the second encounter between the heads of State this year, after the one held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in January, during the 7th Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC).

Diaz-Canel met earlier in the day with United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and UNESCO Director General Audrey Azoulay, and participated in the opening of the two-day forum.

Speaking about his attendance to the event, organized by French President Emmanuel Macron, the Cuban leader said that the fulfillment of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda must be accompanied by a profound rethinking of the current economic, financial and trade order.

In this regard, he advocated for the establishment of new bases of justice, equity and solidarity, with a new relationship between the North and the South.
