Danza Contemporánea de Cuba to Dazzle Audiences with Katharsis Morphé
especiales

Danza Contemporánea de Cuba (DCC) will grace the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater today with a program that celebrates the company’s 66th anniversary and features a highly anticipated premiere: Katharsis Morphé.
The piece, choreographed by renowned Cuban artist George Céspedes, is complemented by Purple Fools, by Italian choreographer Mauro de Candia, and Súlkary, by Cuban master Eduardo Rivero.
Katharsis Morphé is enriched by music from X Alfonso, Polito Ibáñez, Santiago Feliú, and other composers with whom Céspedes has collaborated in previous works. The production conveys powerful emotions through the dancers’ full dedication on stage, according to Miguel Iglesias, the company’s director, during a recent press briefing. He added that he always seeks to shape each program in ways that engage the audience’s diverse sensibilities, while striving to surprise spectators with something “they do not expect to see.”
A renewed ensemble carries in their bodies, veins, and emotions the legacy of a troupe that has distinguished itself both nationally and internationally with an evocative art form—one that invites reflection, captivates, and inspires love.
As one article noted, Céspedes pours into this new choreography one of his artistic obsessions: “national identity, its fractures, its reinterpretations, and its constant transformation in the face of contemporary challenges.”
Thus, Katharsis Morphé emerges as an artistic proposal where the virtuosity of DCC’s dancers meets the passions of a creator who sustains a dialogue with the audience through the beauty and complexity of each movement.
The performances will continue this Saturday and Sunday, delighting admirers of this prestigious company, a benchmark of contemporary dance in Cuba.
