The meeting between the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, ended without results and without any real agreement, reported the Israeli diary Haaretz.

According to the newspaper, Blinken avoided speaking and even announcing the date for the reopening of the US consulate in Jerusalem, a promise made by President Joe Biden. Neither did he address the reopening of the Palestine Liberation Organization office in Washington

The newspaper noted that Abbas expected the head of US diplomacy to announce some political gesture, but the latter only spoke of granting funds to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA). He did not present any effective step of political significance, the publication stressed.

Haaretz stressed that the current Israeli government, the most right-wing in the country’s history, definitively buried any possibility of an agreement with the Palestinians, which is why the talks will focus only on avoiding further escalation.

On several occasions, the PNA called on the White House to pressure its ally to stop the Jewish colonization of Palestinian land, the expulsion of the Arab population and the demolition of homes, as well as the assaults and assassinations.

In recent days, Blinken visited Egypt, Israel and the Palestinian territories amid a wave of violence following a raid by Tel Aviv forces on the Jenin refugee camp in the northern West Bank, where they killed 10 Palestinians.
